Mid-Season Meet and Practice Suggestions
Practice
- Come as much as you can! The only way to improve is to practice. Plus, we love to see all of your smiling faces everyday.
- All girls are strongly encouraged to wear a swim cap, even during practice. Swimming is a lot easier without long hair getting in the way.
- If parents have any questions or concerns about what goes on during practices, please approach the coaches after practice has ended.
Meets
- Please notify the coaches if a swimmer will not be able to attend a meet, especially if it’s last minute.
- Swimmers and parents are in charge of writing events on the swimmers’ hand. A list of entries will be posted at each meet. The coaches have a lot going on before/during meets so please try to handle this on your own.
- Pay attention to relay line-ups! They are usually put together the day of the meet (to take absences and illnesses into account) so make sure all swimmers double check if they are on relays before leaving the meet.
- Bring healthy snacks (bagels and peanut butter, fruit, crackers, Powerbars, etc.) to meets instead of buying pizza, hot dogs, and candy. Eat food that will make you swim fast!
- Leave your footballs, Frisbees, and soccer balls at home – Swimmers should either be cheering for their teammates or resting in the team area between their events, not running around.
- Swimmers should go see the coaches after their events – a lot of times the coaches will find the swimmers, but if not, go see them for congratulations and feedback.
- Keep your eyes and ears open!!! Swimmers need to be aware of what events are being called to the clerk of course. The coaches want to be aware of what’s going on in the pool, not searching for missing swimmers.
- Bring your positive attitudes – Wish the opposing team good luck at the clerk of course, have friendly conversations, and stay in the water after your event until everybody has finished to shake hands with your opponents. Be a good sport!
Thanks to all of the parents for their support and dedication, we couldn’t do it without you!
